High Quality Video Game Rips
The core of SiIvaGunner's content, high quality video game rips (informally abbreviated as "rips") are ostensibly all he uploads (which he will take any opportunity to remind people about). Of course, it is plainly obvious that the songs uploaded are not actually ripped from video games, but are significantly altered in some way.
Their antithesis are low quality rips.
More about rips[edit | edit source]
Roughly speaking, there are three main types of rips:
- Mashups combine the original song (or another one that's related to it somehow) with something unrelated - usually a rap/techno/pop song. Sometimes, there's a reason for the connection (for example, "[it goes here]", which combines a song from the guitar-playing KK Slider with "Wonderwall" - infamously associated with amateur guitarists); sometimes, the contrast is the joke in of itself ("[that pikmin song rom brawl]", which begins with the calm "Aoi no Uta" before abruptly incorporating the loud, infamously angst-ridden song "Crawling"); other times, the only reason is that the two harmonize surprisingly well together.
- MIDI swaps, a general term used for when the actual melody of the original song is altered. Perhaps the most famous example is "Slider", which is altered to play the tune of the Flintstones theme.
- Finally, YTPMVs take a single sound clip (or a set of them) and repeat it to the tune of the original song. Most "Gangnam Style" rips take this form.
There are a few rips that don't fit this pattern - some are straight comedy sketches, while others are straight remixes. In addition, a single rip can contain more than one of these traits - for example, many of the aforementioned "Gangnam Style" rips are both YTPMVs (since they repeat the infamous "op" and "AYYYY" soundbites) and mashups (since they tend to incorporate the actual song at parts).
